14 Jan Embedding Sustainability into Care, Products and Partnerships
At Firstkind, sustainability is not an aspiration on the sidelines of our business — it is embedded in how we design our products, support clinical care and build partnerships. To ensure transparency and accountability, we have published a consolidated overview of our sustainability and Net Zero progress, bringing together evidence, validation and real-world action.

At the centre of this work is our Carbon Reduction Plan, developed in line with UK public-sector procurement requirements. It defines our organisational carbon footprint, reports Scope 1 and 2 emissions alongside selected Scope 3 categories, and confirms our commitment to reach Net Zero by 2045, aligned with NHS targets. Signed off by senior leadership and publicly available, it has already supported success in UK healthcare tenders and provides a robust reference point for international ESG discussions.

I am also pleased that our sustainability approach has been independently benchmarked through EcoVadis. In our 2025 assessment, Firstkind achieved a “Committed” sustainability rating (45+). This globally recognised framework assesses performance across Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement, and confirms that our sustainability management is structured, governed and continuously improving.

Importantly, sustainability at Firstkind translates into meaningful clinical impact. Through our WeCare programme, we assess environmental performance across product design, assembly and end-of-life planning. Using chronic wound care as a real-world example, faster healing supported by the geko device has the potential to reduce clinical waste and CareMiles, lowering associated carbon emissions while improving outcomes for patients and healthcare systems.

We are also taking practical steps to address product lifecycle responsibility. Our UK Device Take-Back and Recycling Pilot encourages the return and recycling of used devices, supporting circular-economy principles. This includes a landmark collaboration with The Royal Mint, supplying redundant PCBs to its specialist recycling facility in South Wales.

Taken together, these initiatives demonstrate that sustainability is a core part of Firstkind’s strategy and product philosophy. Our progress is grounded in recognised methodologies, independently validated and focused on delivering measurable environmental and clinical benefits that can be confidently shared across international markets.
